ESAAlliance, Inc. has received multiple “Cease and Desist” letters from
The Programs.
On August 9th, 2022, ESAAlliance, Inc. Board Members received multiple cease and desist letters through certified mail from five Enthusiastic Sobriety Programs.
The Crossroads Program, The Pathway Program, The Insight Program, The Cornerstone Program and the FullCircle Programs sent identical letters demanding ESAAlliance turn over all Anonymous Mass Complaint responses in order to hold a meeting for “dispute resolution” so that the Programs can conduct an internal review to correct any deficiencies.
What is a Cease and Desist Letter.
A cease and desist letter, often referred to as a "cease and desist notice" or "demand letter," is a written communication sent by one party to another, typically with the aim of stopping or preventing certain actions or behaviors.
Cease and desist letters are commonly served as a formal warning that legal action may be taken if the recipient does not comply with the demands outlined in the letter.

Enthusiastic Sobriety Abuse Alliance, Inc. has no duty to meet with “The Program” and has full right to collect and submit complaints to the appropriate oversight committees.
The Burden of Truth
Truth is a fundamental defense against defamation claims. Defamation refers to the act of making false statements that harm the reputation of an individual or entity. The statement in question must be false. If it is true, it generally cannot be considered defamatory.
In most defamation cases, the burden of proof falls on the plaintiff (the person claiming defamation) to demonstrate that the statement in question is false. This means that the defendant (the person accused of defamation) is not required to prove the truth of the statement.
To establish truth as a defense, the defendant must provide evidence that the statement they made is accurate and factually correct. This evidence can come in the form of documents, witnesses, or other credible sources that support the accuracy of the statement.
The Honest Truth…
Each of our Board Members alone can testify to these “defamatory statements” as true and lived experiences in Enthusiastic Sobriety Programs, and ESAAlliance has now collected over 300 complaints from survivors through our Anonymous Mass Complaint Form. Complaints have already been submitted to Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) and to North Carolina Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB).
Here a list of published articles that illustrate a long history of these claims and that The Program’s reputation has not been tarnished due to ESAAlliance. The Program’s reputation has been established over decades of published reports by investigative journalists and survivors speaking out on their own accord. What’s different now is the advantages of the internet and social media that has allowed these stories to be heard again. And again, it’s not defamation if it’s true.

“Numerous clients who were in ES programs over the past decade said they wanted to talk for this story because they couldn’t stand to see any more tragedy. “It’s been too much death, man,” one source said. “I don’t want to see any more dead kids… Clients who’ve attempted suicide are berated for selfishness. (Stonebraker denied these claims, as did Renae Smith.) The Atavist Magazine 2021.
“This is incredibly concerning because the responses to the Mass Complaint are alleging rape, assault, medical manipulation, abuse, emotional manipulation, and the rate of suicides is incredibly high.” YES! Weekly 2021.
“Kids died in these programs. Many escaped, graduated, or were kicked out only to be left with nasty cases of post-traumatic-stress-disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depression.” The Boca Divide 2012.
“It takes two hands to count the number of people I know who are dead because they weren’t dealt with - they were neglected. And they chose to take their own lives because they didn’t have anywhere else to turn.” ABC15 2005.

“Young people who open up about being sexually assaulted are blamed for what happened to them and discouraged from going to the police.” The Atavist Magazine 2021.
“My counselor made me stand up in front of the other kids in the Insight Program and explicitly say what my rapist did to me,” alleged a High Point resident in a telephone interview with YES! Weekly. “After shaming me, they persuaded me not to report it.” YES! Weekly 2021.
“Meehan was also reportedly unsympathetic to clients who claimed to be sexually assaulted… Counselors were trained to tell clients to take the blame and forget it happened.” Tucson Weekly 2005
"Me and a couple of girls I was in outpatient with had had sexual harassment, molestation, rape [issues]. We were told that there are no victims, only volunteers,"... "[Meehan told us that] it's okay for n*ggers to rape each other because that's how they have sex." Riverfront Times 2005.

Direct statements programs use unfounded “scientific” approaches to drug and alcohol treatment and breached state ethical and licensing codes.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
We had to wait to tell you.
After ESAAlliance, Inc. received these letters, The director of The Crossroads Program filed a complaint against our Secretary’s licensed professional counselor (LPC) therapeutic licensure off of the statements she made in this Youtube video.
The Missouri licensing board has now closed the investigation on Christina’s license and has apologized for the interrogation process.
